Poem - Life is Not all Roses

Lyrics by Lista

Life is not all roses.
Even God has no such guarantee.
Tear drops touch the earth every day,
But life is not all thorns.
Even Satan can't make the whole world bleed.
Roses fill the earth with sweet perfume.

Can you not see the love present here,
Among the ones who believe?
I thank the Lord for helping me see,
Above the thorns are roses.

Life is not all cherries.
Even God has no such guarantee.
We have all felt down in the pits,
But life is not a pit.
Even Satan can not destroy the seed.
One day it will grow to a tree.

Can you not see the love present here,
Among the ones who believe?
I thank the Lord for helping me see,
That the pit's a seed.

Grass in not all green.
Even God allows some brown to heed.
Struggle though we may, there still are flaws,
But grass is not all brown.
Even Satan can not destroy the green.
Watered in God's love it grows and grows.

Can you not see the love present here,
Among the ones who believe?
I thank the Lord for helping me see,
That there is much green.

Can you not see the love present here,
Among the ones who believe?
I thank the Lord for helping me see,
Above the thorns are roses,
And the pit's a seed,
And there is much green.

I am glad List that you posted this. I see so much evil in the world but I also see the wonder of God's creation. It is a sin-tainted creation yes, but it lifts my soul and spirit to see a taste of the things to come for those who are in Him.

That's so true, Lista. Did you write that? If so, great job! :)

I need to go out and smell my roses today.

Yes, I wrote it and believe it or not it's a song. Maybe I should have used the word Lyrics, whether than poem. Maybe I'll edit the post and add my name and the word Lyrics.

I looked at the grass, so brown it was.
"My friend", she did whisper to me, "it is green just let me care".

My rose did not bloom, a stem of thorns was all i saw.
"My friend", she did whisper to me, "the rose be there", just let me care".

In the palm of my hand was but the pit of a cherry.
That be all I saw.
"My friend", she did whisper to me, "life be there, just let me care."

Care she did, day in and day out.
Care she gave and with each day that passed,
She had but these words, "the green is there, my friend, and so is the rose and the same of life"

In time I believed, in time I knew,
That one day the grass would be green,
the rose would bloom
and life would begin.
Tho I knew not why nor did I know how.

Then one day I heard her say
"Smell the green in the grass,my friend.
Touch the pedal of the rose,my friend.
See the life that has begun, my friend".

I did but smile tho not a word I spoke.
But this I knew, this I could not say,
It was her care, it was her love
That brought life to the grass, that brought the rose to bloom, that had brought life from the pit.

shuckens, lista, I did nothing. they were your words not mine as I saw them in your lyrics.

Maybe a lot of the words are mine, but I like your take on it. I obviously inspired you.

Or actually, it could be said that neither one of us did anything. God's the one who did all of it.

God gave me a poem with a message about how there is beauty in the world. Then He took HIS poem and filtered it though yet another person, adding another twist and turning it into a poem, not only about the positives and negatives in life, but also about POTENTIAL and HOPE, based on someone's willingness to put forth EFFORT.

The poem he gave me is about the fact that there are already both positives and negatives in life. Yours is about POTENTIAL, based on the willingness to put out a little EFFORT.

One question that comes to my mind, though, is whose effort is it?

One interpretation relates to us finding a way to believe in and see potential in ourselves, which is actually sort of hard to do on our own power, and being willing to believe enough to put forth the effort required to become all that God has created us to be.

Another interpretation is that the grass, rose and cherry pit could be a certain person that has given up and whose friends have also given up on as well, yet there is one person who sees potential there and decides to encourage and offer friendship and emotional support to the one who appears to be a "lost cause".

A third interpretation is that the grass, rose and cherry pit could represent people and the one who waters, fertilizes, prunes and cultivates could represent God. This interpretation fits the Bible really well.

Which ever interpretation is chosen, the message is not only “Positive Thinking”, but POTENTIAL and HOPE. What God gave me talks about a beauty that is already there, yet the way he gave it to you expresses even more hope that it can be even better.

There are always positives that can be seen if we can look for them, yet why should we have a "Positive Attitude" that settles for and accepts what's already there, when with a little effort, we can have even more.

My poem reflects "Positive Thinking". Yours reflects something even more. Yours reflects reaching and striving and improving and growing and getting better. That is what I saw in your poem. So whether you borrowed a lot of ideas from me or not, I still feel like saying thank you, because you took the ideas and building blocks that were started in my poem and expanded them to the next level.

Actually, neither one of us can take any credit, because I believe that this sort of inspiration comes directly from God. God gave me a poem and then God used that poem to inspire another one in you just as beautiful, so God gets all the glory for both of these poems.

The message of POTENTIAL and HOPE in what God gave you, though, really moves me. Praise God!!

he smiles
where beauty is found, there, caring can be found and i found beauty in your words.
where there be beauty, inspiration is found and hope arises through the caring and i wrote of that caring.
and where caring be found life is never far behind and i saw life in each and individual thing thought lost. not one forsaken so that the others may live.

tis the lesson of the lost sheep, no?

When we take the time to notice the beauty in each other, this is when the world is just full of beauty. Praise be to the God of all wonder and beauty. To Him be all the glory. Amen!

Wow again! Griper, that was Awesome!!

They call this prophetic art. The reason why they call it this is because it is totally spontaneous and unplanned. The painter does not know what he's going to paint until he's inspired to do it. Sometimes there is a very profound and powerful message portrayed in the painting. I've only seen this done a few times, yet I really do love it.

I loved it when he added the eyes. Thanks so much!

The above link didn't come out too well, yet fortunately it was clearer when in came into my email. Here it is again for those of you who would love to share in this blessing. Praise God!!

Lista, that was truly uplifting to read and on a day when I needed it a little more than usual. How fitting that I came to it today, though you posted it days before.
It made me wander outside, barefoot, in my own patch of grass, and while my roses aren't yet in bloom, there are beautuful red lillys where yesterday there was just a space with what seemed to hold no color at all.
I remember planting them with my father years before he became ill, wondering if the effort was worth reward of these declicate blossoms that last only a while every year.
Thank you for reminding me that they are.

Hi Angel,

Isn't it neat how "Coincidence" so often leads to blessings. I believe that God does that. I'm so very glad that you felt blessed today. Praise God!!!
