Happy Thanksgiving

I guess I could Post something Political but I'm going to be Very Busy soon and it's usually not Best to Open your Mouth and Say Something, Unless you have the Time to Defend it.  I guess that means that if you are Low on Time, then it is Best not to Open your Mouth.

This Actually isn't a Time for Arguing anyway.  Instead, this is a Time of Thanksgiving and I am Truly Grateful for all of my Family and Friends.  And I Thank all of you who Follow my Blog and Comment Once in awhile.  May you all have a Very Happy Thanksgiving.  Don't Eat too much now, ya' hear.

My ancestors were not pilgrims, so
they missed the First Thanksgiving.
But, a nephew has traced us back to
the Jamestown settlement in those
early years. But Thanksgiving is a good idea..too bad it is followed
by the 'Black Friday' 5 AM Christmas shopping at the mall...

Yeh, and I'm Thankful that I am not Required to Participate in the "Black Friday" Madness.

You have me thinking about memorable Thanksgivings. When I was a lil kid, we always went to
our rich aunt's. She had fancy
silverware and great food. My
first year in the Army, I ate
TG dinner by myself (I was officer of the day, and had to fill out
a 'mess report'). The next year,
my new wife put on TG for a houseful of grateful young lieutenants. And so through the
years, often with family, often
with travel. One year, my wife
was traveling and I had a turkey
TV dinner watching football all
by myself. One year, we were on
the road and pulled into a zero
degree windy Cheyenne: a sole trucker and we had turkey in a
roadside cafe. Interesting thing
about holidays...the old memories.

I guess there was a time earlier in my Youth, in which we spent Thanksgivings with the Aunts, Uncles and Cousins and then after awhile, Thanksgiving was just for Immediate Family and the Larger Gatherings with the Cousins Only Happened at Christmas. And then Still Later, Christmas was just for Immediate Family too and the Bigger Family Gatherings was Moved to New Years Day.

As Time Went on, more and more People Moved away and so now the Larger New Years Celebration appears to be Fizzling Out as well. The ones who Live in Southern California do Try and Gather when we go down.

Since my Husband and I Never did have Children, our Thanksgiving and Christmas is now made up of my Husband and I, my Father-in-Law and One Cousin that Lives Near by. We Don't Even Travel to see my Parents anymore at Christmas Time because my Father-in-Law still lives on his Own, but we don't Like to Leave him alone when there is a Possibility of Snow and Ice, as well as Power Outages.

The First Year that this Decision was made was Last Year, but it Looks Like we are not Going Down there this Christmas either. This Makes the Holidays a Little less Interesting, yet I guess it's Ok. Maybe One of these Years, I'll Travel Down to see Mom and Dad by myself. We'll see. It's Hard not being with Mom and Dad at Christmas, but it is also Hard not being with my Husband.
